Penguin behind the scenes

In 2013 what should have been a wonderful family holiday for the Bloom family ended in a terrible accident. Sam Bloom suffered a devastating 6 metre fall and broke her back. ⁣

Soon after @penguinthemagpie arrived in the Blooms’ lives. While she couldn't help with Sam’s physical wounds she helped Sam and her family start to heal their mental wounds. Sam has now told her story in her new book co-written with Bradley Trevor Greive @tasmanian_grizzly called ‘Heartache and Birdsong’ and I can not properly convey the beauty, insight, honesty, grief and love that pours out of her which moved me to tears. I adore Sam, the Blooms and this book. ⁣

This video is of me photographing the famous ‘Penguin’ the magpie, in 2014 using a Phase One, with my son watching on.

In March 2015, I returned to visit Penguin and the Blooms to photograph Penguin again. You can she how she changed over that period in the gallery below.
